ONE Archives, Los Angeles
ONE Archives in Los Angeles is the largest collection of LGBT materials in the world. Founded in 1952 by Jim Kepner, the archives were a part of the bigger organization, ONE Inc. ONE Inc. was also home to ONE Magazine which was one of the first widespread gay publications. In 2000, the archives moved to a location provided by the University of Southern California and was eventually officially absorbed by the library in 2010. The archive houses over two million materials such as books, film, etc. related to LGBT issues and topics. ONE Archives was one of the first places that set out to preserve and record LGBT history which as we know is often "straight-washed" or erased altogether. I included ONE archives due to the fact that it is crucial in preserving queer history and knowledge and any space that does that should be celebrated. The archives also hold events with queer writers and key figures and additionally spreads knowledge and news in and about the queer community.
